Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of Expressive Art Therapy?

This form of therapy offers a means for people to communicate their thoughts, feelings and concerns by expressing them in a safe, nonverbal manner through the use of art materials. Creating art allows both the individual and the therapist to explore the feelings that surface in the process.

How much do you charge, and how would I pay for the services?

We have a price range that makes therapy affordable for all family incomes. Insurance sometimes covers some of the fee with the co-pay left to the individual. We are open to negotiating fees.

What is Art Therapy? Do I need to be talented artistically to benefit?

Art Therapy is useful for all ages to enhance understanding, growth and insight. People find the use of art – drawing, painting, sculpting, collaging – to be a healing process. The art symbols and metaphors allow a non-threatening way to communicate troubling events and feelings. And, one of the most exciting things about Art Therapy is that you need not be artistically talented to participate and benefit! Through art, the past, present and future are better understood.

What is Play Therapy? Why would I pay for my child to play when he/she can do that at home?

Play Therapy differs from regular play in that the therapist helps children systematically address and resolve their own problems. Since play is fun, it makes it easier for children to confront what is bothering them. Play allows them a safe psychological distance from their problems and allows them to express their true thoughts and feelings in ways best suited to their developmental level. Once children have expressed and addressed their problems through play, the therapist will be better able to help them find solutions to their life problems.

What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. What is Animal Assisted Therapy?

Animal Assisted Therapy involves the use of gentle, loving, well-trained animals to help build rapport and encourage client responsiveness. A therapy dog can be present in sessions when requested and greatly adds to the whole therapy experience.
